Chicago River Field Trip

On november 12th 2010 me and my class mates went to the chicago river site as a field trip. We went on this field trip to examine the types of creachers that live in the water. Our class also had to do various types of test on the water to determine the levels of PH. Durring the field trip we encountered many obstacles. On the trip many of the students had fallen in the water or down the steep walk ways that were there. We had to climb rocks to get where we going or we had to slide down walk ways to get where we were going. It was very exciting and the students made it action packed.

The very first thing we did once we got off our our bus ride to the Chicago River was have a bite to eat. Once we got done eating and geting a bit of energy we began to split up into small groups. The  or groups contained only about seven or eight students. While in our small groups the first stop was with one of CTK's very own Mr.Zizer. What we had done was collect various amounts of water to compare the PH levels.
The very next thing we had done in our samll groups was walk around the area with one of our other staff Ms.Porter. While we were walking around we were looking at all of the amazing trees and types of grasses that the chicago river area had. We also had time to look at the past data the we had collected from our first group activity we had. When we looked at our data was the oxygen test. The results for our test reavealed that our PH level was 9. All of the students who in our group were suprised at the results that we had recieved. Then we had some of the more adventurous people in the group who decided to have a closer look at the trees.

The next task we were set out to do was get in the water to try and search for anytype of organisum or bug that we could find. The first thing that we had to do was put on these very large boots that went all the way up to our thighs. Then we had ti gear up as a group and head into the water. It was a greatexperience. The hardest part about being in the water was that the waves were strong and it was very slippery rocks beneath the water. It was also challenging to have to carry extra weight of the boots we were wearing because they were very heavy on our feet. Overall the trip to the chicago river was amazing and i had a blast. Even though i fell into the water i still had the best time seeing all types of organisums and being in the water.

In the end i had a blast with mty favorite Enviormental Science teacher Ms. Lieder. I would like to thank Ms.Lieder so much for taking us on the trip. I look forward to going in the spring to check or update on our data.
